Easy Pigs in a Blanket Recipe (Crescent Rolls & Hot Dogs)
Looking for a crowd-pleasing appetizer or a quick and easy meal? Pigs in a blanket are a classic for a reason! This recipe uses just two main ingredients – crescent roll dough and hot dogs – making it incredibly simple and satisfying.
Ingredients:
- 1 (8 ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 8 hot dogs (beef, pork, or turkey – your choice!)
- Optional: Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water)
- Optional: Everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, or poppy seeds
- Optional: Dipping sauces like mustard, ketchup, or BBQ sauce
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the hot dogs: Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel. This will help the crescent roll dough adhere better. You can also cut each hot dog in half if you prefer smaller pigs in a blanket.
- Unroll the dough: Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it onto a clean surface. You’ll typically have 8 triangles of dough.
- Assemble the pigs in a blanket: If you are using full-sized hot dogs, place one hot dog at the wide end of each triangle of dough. If you are using halved hot dogs, you can cut each triangle in half to make smaller pigs. Roll the dough up tightly around the hot dog, starting from the wide end and working towards the point. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Optional: Add egg wash and seasoning: Brush the tops of the pigs in a blanket with the egg wash. This will give them a golden-brown, glossy finish. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, or poppy seeds, if desired.
- Bake: Place the pigs in a blanket on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
- Cool slightly and serve: Let the pigs in a blanket cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve them warm with your favorite dipping sauces!
Tips and Variations:
- Cheese it up: Add a small strip of cheese (cheddar, American, or mozzarella) along with the hot dog before rolling.
- Spice it up: Add a sprinkle of chili powder or a small dollop of jalapeno jelly before rolling.
- Use different sausages: Experiment with different types of sausages, such as Italian sausage or bratwurst. Just make sure they are fully cooked before wrapping them in the dough.
- Mini pigs in a blanket: Use cocktail sausages or slice regular hot dogs into smaller pieces for bite-sized appetizers.
- Air fryer option: You can also cook these in an air fryer! Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
Enjoy your delicious and easy pigs in a blanket! They are perfect for parties, snacks, or a simple weeknight meal.
